Task 1 IELTS Structure

 When writing task 1 in IELTS, you may present one or some of the following types:

1. Line graph

2. Bar chart

3. Pie chart

4. Table

5. Diagram

6. Process diagram                                           

7. Map

In general, you can apply a similar writing structure to all of the above types.

Here is the template:

Paragraph 1	Paraphrase the main content of the graph (Usually you paraphrase the given topic) Describe the general trend of the graph
Paragraph 2	Describe the first group of information
Paragraph 3	Describe the second group of information

Examples:

The structure of this line graph can be:

Paragraph 1: 

Main content: This line graph illustrates the proportion of working women in four countries from 1985 to 2005.

General trend: Three countries namely USA, Korea and France saw an upward trend over twenty years while Afghanistan observed the opposite.

Paragraph 2: Describe the trend of USA and Korea

Paragraph 3: Describe the trend of France

Paragraph 4: Describe the trend of Afghanistan
